Peace of Mind: How providers are getting back time, mitigating non-compliance and tackling siloed systems at an unannounced visit

The Visit

On a June morning in 2020, a small Residential Aged Care facility in Victoria had three assessors arrive at 9:30am for an unannounced Monitoring Assessment with the Commission.

The assessors were there to review the Home’s systems in line with COVID-19 and infection prevention and control. Related systems were also explored at this time including stock supplies, non-clinical areas (laundry, cleaning and food services), and management and Governance systems.

Getting Back to Business

Within 3 hours assessors had completed the visit, and it was back to business for the staff at the home. Having implemented CompliCare, staff were able to quickly and easily be produce up-to-date policies, procedures, training, and systems, making it simple for assessors to ensure everything reviewed met the requirements of the Quality Standards.

Mitigating the ‘Silo’ Effect

There is no shortage of systems sitting siloed in Aged Care facilities, creating a lot of extra work for staff. Seeking to mitigate the need to subscribe to multiple systems, the Home’s introduction of CompliCare offered an end-to-end solution meaning that the Director of Nursing was able to demonstrate:

  • the CompliCare system to the assessors
  • the ease of review in relation to publishing of documents and
  • how policies and procedures are updated to ensure current / best practice content

The Outcome

“It was definitely a surprise to receive a phone call from the ACQASC to be informed following a phone screening that we were about to have an unannounced visit focusing on our preparedness for COVID-19. However, the assessors were great and due the CompliCare system, we were able to obtain a great result!” - Director of Nursing
